No fuel for many MPs to travel to Parliament
By Norman Palihawadane
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told The Island yesterday that many MPs would not be able to attend Parliament sitting this week owing to the prevailing fuel shortage.
The Speaker said that Parliament would meet on four days this week starting from today (21) but the number of MPs attending the sessions could be low.
The Speaker said the MPs had informed him that they would not be able to attend Parliament as they had no fuel for their vehicles.
Some MPs, contacted for comment, said that they had no fuel and even their drivers were not willing to join the fuel queues outside petrol sheds for fear of angry protesters attacking them.
