No-faith motion against Speaker to be submitted tomorrow

The no-confidence motion against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena would be submitted to the Secretary General of Parliament tomorrow (5), Chief Opposition Whip Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella said yesterday.

Kiriella said that opposition MPs irrespective of their party colours had signed the motion, pledging their support for removing Abeywardena from the post of Speaker on grounds of breaching public confidence in that post.

Kiriella said that the date for taking the motion for debate and vote would be decided at the next party leaders’ meeting.
