Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said that there would be no revision of electricity tariffs this month.

This follows the Public Utilities Commission rejecting a request by the CEB to revise power tariffs.

Wijesekera told journalists that the government policy was to revise electricity prices biannually in January and July every year.

The Ceylon Electricity Board would ensure an uninterrupted supply of power, countrywide throughout the year, Minister Wijesekera said, adding that currently, the full capacity of available power plants was in use for power generation.

He also said that a meeting had been held at the President’s office on Sunday (06) with CEB and Irrigation Department officials over the need to ensure a continuous power supply while the maximum amount of water was released for agriculture.
