No Cooperative shop at Hantana

Hantana people were serviced by a Cooperative Sales Office for the past 15 years or so. For the past 6 months or so, this sales centre has been closed down for unknown reasons. This situation has forced people to travel or walk 4 km away to the Kandy City to purchase food stuffs. Even when the shop was functioning, it did not have required amounts of food stuffs on sale. Everyone needs to know the reasons for this lock up, and when it will open up again.

The Hantana housing scheme is established in front of a long stretch of a beautiful jungle about 100 acres in extent. Many who live there enjoy watching wild animals and birds in that environment. However, for some time, wild leopards have started migrating to the human habitats in Hantana. In this invasion, the target has been the dogs that are reared, and unable to move around. The dogs must be kept inside houses and immediate land areas, and should be taken out for walks only. Instead most dogs are let loose and become a draw for leopards. In addition to leopards there are deer, wild pigs, and porcupine, and many wild birds that are worth watching and studying.
