Nine escape from Thaldena drug rehab. centre

Nine inmates who were being rehabilitated at the Thaldena drug rehabilitation centre, Badulla, escaped in the early hours yesterday (17).Prison media spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said the inmates the escaped around 1 am on Monday.

Young offenders are held in the rehabilitation centre.The prison authorities were conducting an investigation into the incident and a search operation had been launched to find the escaped inmates, the official said.

Ekanayake said two of the escapees have been arrested.
