Open bat Nikil Jayaweera rose to the occasion top scoring with 139 runs for Richmond to overcome a mini top order collapse and post 304 runs on day two of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ cricket final at the SSC on Tuesday.

In reply to Trinity’s 203 runs, Richmond were 66 for two wickets after Tharana Wimaladharma took two quick wickets in the morning. They were 93 for three wickets at one stage but Jayaweera dropped anchor with a match defining century and put on vital 114 runs partnership for the fifth wicket with Shehan de Zoysa to guide Richmond to a commanding position.

Jayaweera faced 235 balls and scored 13 fours and a six in his knock. Zoysa’s 50 included five fours. Both were dismissed by Wimaladharma who was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

In their second essay Trinity were 38 for one wicket at stumps. They were still trailing by 63 runs.
