 condemns bid to overrun Parliament

The National Freedom Front (NFF) has appealed to all stakeholders including those who toppled the government not to hinder the process of electing a new President. The NFF has also appealed to the military to take tangible measures to curb those who engage in violence as part of the overall strategy meant to pave the way for foreign military intervention. The NFF parliamentary group consists of six MPs.

The NFF’s politburo emphasized the need for a conducive environment for the conducting of the vote as scheduled on Wednesday (20).The party expressed serious concern over the recent bid to overrun the Parliament. The NFF said that as a result of a spate of utterly irresponsible decisions taken by the Rajapaksa administration, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in spite of winning the last presidential election, failed to complete at least half of his five-year term and had to flee the country.

The NFF faulted ex-President Rajapaksa for creating another crisis by accommodating UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister, thereby paving to way for him to function as the Acting President. Unless remedial measures were taken forthwith, Sri Lanka could end up as the Libya in South Asia or the 29th state of India. The NFF urged Wickremesinghe to resign immediately for Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to function as the Acting President pending the election of a new President on Wednesday (SF)
