New MP comes by boat to popularise convenient mode of transport

Newly elected MP Madhura Vithanage chose to arrive for the inaugural parliamentary session yesterday (20) by boat.Arriving at the parliamentary complex by boat, Vithanage said that it was a practical mode of transport as the parliament was situated in the middle of a lake.
He noted that he had chosen to ride to parliament in a boat to avoid traffic congestion.
Vithanage explained that the President had initiated the boat service as an alternative to reduce traffic congestion, but lamented that people were not making use of it.
He said he was planning to promote the boat service, which he said was a viable alternative to road transport and would help ease congestion on roads.
