New electricity tariff formula: Decision today
The Public Utilities Commission, and the Ceylon Electricity Board, hadn’t been able to reach a consensus on the new electricity tariffs. Senior officials of the two bodies held discussions, in this regard, on Monday (13), the Parliament said yesterday.
The House, in a statement, quoted Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena as having said that he expected them to finalise their decision today (15).
Earlier, the National Council, chaired by Speaker Abeywardena, directed the two state bodies to finalise the new power tariff formula.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana mentioned that when the National Council met earlier, the Public Utilities Commission informed the National Council that it would inform the Council of its final decision, regarding the increase of power tariffs, before the 15th. Therefore, the Speaker stated that he expects a response today (15) regarding the matter.
Ministers Kanchana Wijesekera, Tiran Alles, State Ministers D.V. Chanaka, Indika Anuruddha, Members of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka, Sagara Kariyawasam were present at the Council meeting.
