The half marathon and the health run organized by Sri Lanka Athletics to commence its centenary celebrations on January 22 will be powered by Nestlé Nestomalt. The half marathon and the health run will commence at 6.00 am at Diyatha Uyana.

Sri Lanka Athletics will celebrate its birth day on the said date as it was on January 22 in 1922 that the country’s track and field governing body, formerly known as the Amateur Athletics Association was affiliated to World Athletics.

The two road races will be sponsored by Nestlé Nestomalt – a brand that has been a sponsor and organizer of Sri Lanka’s biggest marathons for over 30 years. Staying true to the brand’s purpose of powering progress and helping Sri Lankans achieve their ambitions, Nestlé Nestomalt has made a difference in the careers of many Sri Lankan athletes by creating platforms for wider exposure. Having partnered Sri Lanka Athletics many times in its remarkable journey, Nestlé Nestomalt will provide a positive start to its Centenary Anniversary celebrations.

The 21km half marathon will be open for men and women above 18 years of age. The race will commence from Diyatha Uyana, and go through Ethul Kotte Junction, Sirikotha, Pagoda Road, Nugegoda Super Market Junction, Nugegoda High Level Road, Maharagama, Pannipitiya, Borella Road, Thalawathugoda, Battaramulla Junction, and culminates at Diyatha Uyana. Sri Lanka Athletics has extended invitations to athletes from many South Asian countries. Approximately 250 athletes are expected to participate.

In addition, a 5km health run will be held on the same day. Starting from Diyatha Uyana, this race would follow the route from Parliament Road, Palam Thuna Junction, Battaramulla Junction, and end at Diyatha Uyana. Approximately 1,500 participants are expected to take part in this event.
