Need for restructuring CEB stressed

It was essential to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and President Ranil Wickremesinghe was very keen thereon, a senior engineer told The Island yesterday. Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara, on Saturday, said that a committee had been appointed to restructure the CEB.The committee would be headed by Dr R H S Samaratunge – Former Secretary, Finance Ministry , President’s Counsel Nihal Jayawardhane – Former Legal Consultant to the Public Enterprise Reforms Commission, Attorney at Law Harsha Fernando – Former Senior State Counsel at the AGs Department M M C Ferdinando, Former Secretary, Ministry of Power & Energy,Dr. Susantha Perera – Former AGM, Ceylon Electricity Board,

Thilan Wijesinghe – Former Chairman, Board Of Investment, Saliya Wickramasuriya – Chairman, Petroleum Development Authority and Director General, Port City Economic Commision, and Chandana Wijesinghe – Director, Ministry of Power and Energy Minister.

 Wijesekera told journalists that the responsibility of restructuring the CEB had been entrusted to the members of the committee, following a Cabinet decision.He said that this committee would provide restructuring proposals with the technical support of various development institutions, within one month.A committee had also been appointed to evaluate suitable companies to import, distribute and sell petroleum products.
