Nearly 280,000 vaccine doses required for initial inoculation of teachers et al

Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris yesterday (16) said that the government would make every effort to enhance confidence among the teachers, non-academic staff, students and their parents before reopening schools, now closed due to the rampaging Covid-19 epidemic.

Prof. Peiris said that inoculation of some sections of staff would be of pivotal importance before countrywide re-opening of schools.

Pointing out that the government had taken measures to establish online systems for students’ benefit, the Education Minister said that they were keen to re-open schools.

The minister said that approximately 280,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were required for the initial inoculation drive. Sri Lanka has not so far inoculated those under 30. (SF)
