Navy takes 15 Indian fishers into custody

The Sri Lankan Navy and Coast Guard arrested 15 Indian nationals engaged in illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters, off Delft Island, Jaffna, on Saturday (8) night.

The Navy seized Indian trawlers as well.

The trawlers, together with the Indian fishermen, were brought to the Kankesanthurai Harbour to be handed over to Fisheries officials for onward legal proceedings.

The Navy has seized 12 Indian poaching trawlers and arrested 74 Indian fishermen who were engaged in illegal activities in Sri Lankan waters so far this year.
