Navy seizes two Indian trawlers with 23 fishers for poaching

The Navy seized two Indian trawlers and apprehended 23 Indian nationals poaching in the territorial waters off the Delft Island in Jaffna.

The seized trawlers with the Indian fishermen were brought to the Kankesanthurai Harbour on Sunday and they would be handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for onward legal action, the Navy said.The Sri Lankan navy arrested 343 people engaged in illegal activities and confiscated thousands of kilograms of contraband in 2023, it said recently.
