Navy seizes Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 59 Mn in seas south of Mannar
The Navy seized a stock of nearly 200 kilos of Kerala cannabis, adrift in the seas south of Mannar, on Saturday (16).
The Navy said that SLNS Mihikatha, patrolling in the seas, south of Mannar, had observed several suspicious packages adrift in the sea. After retrieving the packages, the Navy team found about 197.6 kilos (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis, in 50 packets, in two sacks.
It is believed that the smugglers had jettisoned the stock of Kerala cannabis into the sea and fled due to naval presence.
The street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 59 million.
The stock of Kerala cannabis would be set on fire and destroyed under the supervision of the Naval Provost branch, the Navy said.
