Navy rescues Indian fishermen stranded in Lankan waters
The Navy rescued six distressed Indian fishermen, who had drifted to Lankan waters, north of Talaimannar, with their malfunctioned trawler, the Navy Media Unit said.
SLNS Ranajaya, patrolling in the sea area, on Sunday morning, spotted the Indian trawler, drifting in island waters, north of Talaimannar.
Upon inspection of the trawler, the Navy personnel found that the Indian trawler had swept towards Sri Lankan waters as a result of a mechanical failure of its engine.
The Navy rescued the six fishermen, aboard the defunct vessel, and provided them with food, drink and other necessary humanitarian assistance.
SLNS Ranajaya escorted the rescued fishermen, along with their fishing trawler, to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and handed them over to another Indian trawler, ensuring their safe return.
