The passenger Vessel ‘Vadatharaki’, repaired by the Sri Lanka Navy, resumed its operations between Punguduthivu and Delft Islands recently.

The SLN said the passage between the two islands had been suspended after ‘Vadatharaki’ deployed by the Road Development Authority (RDA) became unseaworthy.

In response to a RDA request, the SLN undertook repairs of the redundant vessel in March 2021.

Thereafter, the vessel was towed from Kankesanthurai harbour to the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee for repairs, the SLN said.

The vessel has been deployed to transport passengers and cargo between Kurikadduwan Jetty on Punguduthivu and Delft Island in Jaffna.

A naval crew operated the passenger vessel deployed by the RDA as part of a welfare project, the Navy said.
