Navy, PNB carry out major drug bust at sea

300 kilos of heroin and ICE brought to Galle Port yesterday morning with six suspects

The Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau carried out another major drug bust in international waters when it intercepted a multi-day fishing trawler named Kalindu-1 in the deep seas off the Southern coast on Thursday night.

The haul of around 300 kilos of heroin and crystal methamphetamine were brought to Galle Harbour yesterday (05) morning along with six suspects.The drugs were found in 178 parcels. 130 of them contained methamphetamine and others heroin.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Navy and PNB sleuths. The Navy said that they were still calculating the street value of the drugs.
