Navy operation nabs three with 2,468 kilos of Kendu leaves

A search operation carried out by the Navy led to the detection of three dinghies loaded with over 2,468 kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu Leaves, in the lagoon area of Chilaw, yesterday (18). During the operation, three suspects were also apprehended.

In this operation, three suspicious dinghies heading towards land via the Chilaw Lagoon were searched at the Thoduwawa Bridge, Chilaw, and the consignment of smuggled Kendu Leaves was taken into custody along with the suspects and their boats. The Kendu Leaves were in 76 sacks and they weighed about 2,468 kg and 640 g (wet weight).

The suspects arrested in this operation were identified as residents of Pitipana, Negombo, aged 29 and 42. The suspects together with the items of contraband were to be handed over to the Excise Department Office, Madampe for legal action.
