Navy officer undergoing lifesaving training drowns

A naval officer engaged in lifesaving training at the Hikkaduwa beach drowned on Tuesday evening.

The 32-year-old officer attached to the Dikowita Naval Base, Wattala, was a resident of Dodanduwa.

The Balapitiya Navy Training School conducted the lifesaving training course for 30 naval officers off the Pannamgoda beach in Hikkaduwa and the victim was a participant.

The victim died at the Karapitiya Hospital.
