Navy nabs two with over 350 kilos of Kerala ganja

During two separate operations conducted in Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Allappiddi, Kayts in the North, on Friday (03) the Navy arrested two suspects with over 350 kilos of Kerala cannabis and a car.In an operation carried out by SLNS Kanchadewa, Welusumana and Uththara in the Northern Naval Command in coordination with Police Special Task Force (STF) about 141.6 kilos of Kerala cannabis, hidden in a suspicious house in Allappiddi on Kayts Island, was seized along with a suspect on 03 June. The narcotic substance was found in 59 packages which were stuffed in four sacks.

The Naval Detachment Vetthilakeni in the same naval command with Police STF mounted another special operation in Vivekananda Nagar in Kilinochchi in the evening of 03 June and recovered about 208.5 kilos of Kerala cannabis, after searching a suspicious house in the area. The stock of Kerala cannabis was in 91 packages which were contained in five sacks. The raiding party also nabbed a suspect in connection with the incident and a car made ready to transfer the Kerala cannabis.The gross street value of the Kerala cannabis held in these operations is believed to be over Rs.105 million. The suspects taken into custody are residents of Allappiddi and Mullaitivu, aged 43 and 46.The stock of Kerala cannabis with the suspect held in Allappiddi was handed over to the Kayts Police for onward legal action.The haul of Kerala cannabis along with the accused and the car held in Vivekananda Nagar in Kilinochchi was handed over to Kilinochchi Police STF for onward legal proceedings.
