Navy nabs five with gelignite

The Navy apprehended five suspects with 13 water gelignite sticks in Mannar during a search operation conducted off the South Bar, Mannar, on Tuesday (19).

The suspects were getting ready to engage in illegal fishing activities, the Navy said.

A dinghy, too, was taken into custody.

The Navy said the use of explosives for fishing endangered marine life and caused long-lasting damage to the marine ecosystems.
