Navy nabs 35 persons for illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 25 individuals on Thursday (01) off Mamunai and Chundikulam, in Jaffna, for engaging in illegal fishing practices. During these operations, the Navy seized 1068 illegally harvested sea cucumbers, seven dinghies, and various diving and fishing equipment used in these illicit activities.

The apprehended persons, aged between 20 and 57, were from Mannar, Mulliyan, Kannayankadu and Jaffna. The Navy handed over the apprehended suspects, their belongings, and the illegally harvested sea cucumbers to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Jaffna, for legal action.
