Navy detects Kerala ganja on Udappuwa beach

Naval personnel engaged in a foot patrol along the coast of Udappuwa Periyapadu on Sunday, the Navy found a stock of 543 kilos (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis.

The Navy said the personnel of the SLNS Thambapanni attached to the North Western Naval Command had, during a patrol on the Udappuwa Periyapadu beach on Sunday morning, found 173 parcels containing 543 kilos (including wet weight) of Kerala cannabis that had been washed ashore.

The Navy said the smugglers may have fled on seeing the naval personnel.

The stock of Kerala cannabis seized by the Navy is believed to have a street value of Rs. 120 million.

The Navy is conducting further search operations in the Periyapadu area off Udappuwa. The seized cannabis stock has been handed over to the Udappuwa Police for further legal action.
