Navodya hammers unbeaten double century
Under 19 Girls’ Cricket Tournament
by Reemus Fernando
Wadduwa Central thrashed St. Anthony’s Girls’ College, Panadura by 310 runs after skipper Nawodya Nethmini hammered an unbeaten double century for the hosts to amass 347 runs and set the stage for their win in the Under 19 Girls’ Cricket tournament match at Wadduwa on Saturday.
In what schools officials consider as the second highest individual score recorded in girls’ cricket, Nawodya scored 201 runs not out in just 96 balls. Her hurricane knock included 31 fours and three sixes.
The massive score by Wadduwa Central, the runners up of the last Under 19 Girls cricket tournament, was too much for the girls from Panadura who were bowled out for just 37 runs. None of their batswomen could reach double figures and were bowled out for 37 runs.
The unbeaten double century scored by Nawodya is the highest individual score recorded by a batswoman in a 30 overs a side game.
Former Devapathiraja player Kaveesha Dilhari’s triple century against Dharmapala in 2017 is regarded as the highest score by a player in a girls’ cricket tournament. That year, she scored the mammoth knock in a 25-overs- a side match as the Under 19 girls’ tournament was played in that format, according to the Under 19 tournament secretary.
