NATO threat to Russian security

Russia has invaded its neighbour Ukraine and the world opinion is in favour of Ukraine. In my view, the reason for this invasion is none other than NATO expansion.

NATO has 30-member states, including the US, UK and most European countries. NATO’s purpose is to guarantee the freedom and security of its members through political and military means.

Why do they have such a big military block? And who do they want to protect them against? The answer is crystal clear. They want to protect them against Russia, China and other enemies and achieve their political goal.

NATO is continuing to convince Ukraine and other Russian neighbours to join them. What does it mean? NATO is trying to gain an advantage over its enemies. One country shouldn’t invade the other. It’s true. But when a country poses a threat to the security of the other, how are we supposed to interpret it? To Ukrainians, it is a rape of sovereignty. To Russians, it is a breach of security. To others, their understanding of the situation and their self-interest.

By joining NATO, Ukraine may enjoy better economic prospects and better security under NATO protection, but it can be achieved at the cost of Russia’s insecurity. The Ukrainian President, a television comedian turned politician, is viewed by some as an immature politician with a penchant for Western nations. Russia fears that, under his leadership, NATO may establish a strong military foothold on its border. Russia further fears that as the US dominates NATO, this alliance could be used as a stooge against it.

Moreover, NATO isn’t clear about its mission either. They bombed Serbia to protect Bosnians; they didn’t bomb Israel to protect Palestinians; nor did they bomb Myanmar to protect Rohingyas, but they bombed many Middle Eastern countries to please the US.

Therefore, there are always two sides to every story!
