National Occupational Safety & Health Excellence Awards 2021
The National Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (NISOH), the authority concerned with ensuring work place safety, recently invited applications for its 2021 Awards.
These felicitate exceptional achievements related to occupational health and safety.
A news release from Dr. Champika Amarasinghe, Director General of NISOH, explained that the process of selecting the best Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) practicing industries was a very complex process which gave the opportunity to identify the exceptional commitment to OSH by the award winners.
“The awards were structured into three tiers following an intensive selection process. The three tiers are Merit Awards, Sector Awards and Excellence Awards. All entries must undergo a stringent selection process,” the release explained.
“Occupational Safety and Health helps industries save lives and property, enhance productivity, reduce worker turnover and uplift the livelihoods of the workforce. Nationally, OSH helps attract investors, reduce national medical expenses, insurance and compensation cost. Moreover it strengthens employer-employee relationships,” it said.
“While the Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations is responsible for the enforcement of legal frame work for Occupational Safety and Health, the National Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is responsible for creating awareness, training and research on OSH as a policy making body,” it explained.
Inviting industries to join NIOSH for a better public-private partnership and thereby uplift the safety standards of the country, its Director General urged industries to make use of the ‘National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence award’ mechanism to improve the safety standards to achieve zero incidents at work places.
“As a government agency, we are happy to invest to appreciate all your best practices, because we believe that National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence awards will benchmark you among all other industries. After all safety is not just a priority but an overreaching value,” Dr. Amarasinghe said.
