Naren, Avintha stand powers Joes

Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ semi-finals

Naren Muralidaran hogged the limelight with a century and Avintha de Alwis contributed with an unbeaten 86 as St. Joseph’s reached 294 for three wickets at stumps against St. Benedict’s on day one of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ semi-final at Mount Lavinia on Monday.

In the other Tier ‘A’ semi-final, Trinity posted 106 for two wickets at stumps after restricting Maliyadeva to 139 runs at Kirimandala Mawatha. Tharana Wimaladharma and Dinuka Tennakoon shared seven wickets between them for Trinity.

At Mount Lavinia, the Joes’ fourth wicket pair of Muralidaran and de Alwis posted an unbroken stand of 157 runs for them to post 294 runs. Muralidaran was unbeaten on 102 runs after having faced 184 balls (8x4s) for his knock.

De Alwis was not out on 86 runs (144 balls, 6x4s 3x6s).

All three wickets to fall in St. Joseph’s innings were taken by Mevan Dissanayake.
