Nandalal new Governor of CBSL

Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has been appointed the Governor of the Central Bank.

Former Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Weerasinghe will assume duties in his new post tomorrow (07).

Dr. Weerasinghe is expected to help the country avoid a bond default and start negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Weerasinghe replaces Ajith Nivard Cabraal, who resigned Monday following the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers. “Yes, I have been approached and offered the post,” Weerasinghe told Bloomberg on Tuesday, “I have agreed to accept it,” he said.
