Nalinda did not accept money

Further inquiries in respect of the JICA funding controversy involving the Bar Association, revealed that its Deputy President Nalinda Indatissa, PC, had declined to accept a cheque worth Rs 3 mn. Therefore, he is not among those who have been asked to return the money while a five-member team, comprising President’s Counsel, inquired into the matter.

The Island in its May 13 and 20 editions reported that Rs 19 mn out of Rs 21 mn paid by JICA had been shared by members of the team that prepared a report on bribery and corruption.

Sources said that Nalinda Indatissa’s decision not to accept the cheque had been confirmed at last Saturday’s Bar Council meeting.
