Music city of Moratuwa in action this Saturday

The music city of Moratuwa is agog with excitement, as the ‘Down Memory Lane’ Silver Jubilee year celebration will move into top gear, this Saturday, 29th April, at The Grand Bolgoda Resort Moratuwa…from 6 pm onwards.

Old, the not so old, as well as the young ones, who love the golden oldies, are expected to turn up in great numbers, with families and friends, to experience the joy of community singing at its best, during this 2-1/2 hour concert.

In fact, I’ve just been told by Melantha Perera, who will also be in the spotlight, on stage, that it’s already ‘sold out.’

As customary, the main focus will be on vintage favourites known to music lovers. More recent western hit songs, from the ’60s and ’70s period, have also been included in the repertoire, along with evergreen Sinhala songs.

The full complement of western singers, from the Moratuwa Arts Forum, including Delvin Pereira, Lankika Perera, Hemaka Fernando, Brian Coorey, and Lincoln de Silva, will come up on stage to help get the audience activated…to sing, sing and sing!

Arun Dias Bandaranaike will be at hand to help you stroll ‘down memory lane’.

The organisers say that since this event is connected with their Silver Jubilee Year celebrations, everyone patronising this concert will be assured of an absorbing and a memorable time of brotherhood, togetherness and great enjoyment, as they all exercise their vocal cords.

I was also told that Derana Special Events ‘Gasma’ will be doing a photo shoot of all couples, and individuals, at this event, from 6.00 pm – 6.30 pm, prior to entering the concert hall, and these photos will be uploaded on their Facebook page.

There will also be a raffle draw, with valuable prizes to be won.

A DVD – ‘One World One Community’ – that was launched by the Moratuwa Arts Forum (specially composed during the Covid-19 pandemic), and sung by 54 singers from the Moratuwa Arts Forum, will be available for sale, at a very special price.

Yes, the music scene here is certainly brightening up, going by the activities I see posted on social media, and sing-along evenings are in the limelight, as well.
