Musharaff retains title in thrilling seven frame final

Under 21 National Snooker Championship

Defending champion M.R.M. Musharaff of Moors SC retained the title as he prevailed with a thrilling four frames to three win over his club mate Ahamed Raza in the final of the Under 21 National Snooker Championship played at the Billiards and Snooker Association headquarters billiards table at Independence Square in Colombo.

The championship dominated by the cueists of Moors SC saw three of their players battling it out in the two semi finals.

Musharaff had to work hard for the victory and deliver his best to retain the title. The finale started off with Musharaff taking the lead with an easy first frame win but Raza came back by taking the second frame and again the two cueists shared the next two frames before Raza went into the lead with a comfortable fifth frame win but Musharaff came back strongly to come out victorious in the final two frames to seal the match in his favour.

The championship conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka was sponsored by Crown Billiard International (Pvt) Ltd. The tournament saw the participation of 16 top young cueists.

Zanoon (MICH) beat Fass Ahamed (Shooters BC) 3-0 (54/23, 46/16, 56/31), Ahamed Raza (MSC) beat M.Z.M. Zuhar (MSC) 3-1 (100/0, 30/55, 59/23, 60/44).

Semi Finals: M.R.M. Musharaff (MSC) beat Hassan Ali (MSC) 4-0 (63/3, 67/29, 66/31, 54/2). Ahamed Raza (MSC) beat M.S. Zanoon (MICH) 4-0 (55/35, 73/49, 62/49, 48/41)

Final: M.R.M. Musharaff (MSC) beat Ahamed Raza (MSC) 4-3 (84/31, 43/51, 75/7, 27/71, 9/69, 68/28, 60/51)
