The Cabinet of Ministers approved the combined proposal presented by the Prime Minister as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, and Minister of Transport and Highways to set up a museum in the currently underutilized Sri Lanka Railways Departmental Quarters adjacent to  Seethawaka Post Office.

The Kingdom of Seethawaka is known to have been established in the year 1521 but up to date the identity of the Seethawaka kingdom has not been showcased. Therefore, it is planned to set up a museum to display to the public the guns, swords, other military equipment, tools and utensils manufactured and used during the era of the Seethawaka Kingdom.
