Mujibur sworn in as MP

Mujibur Rahuman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was sworn in as a Member of Parliament yesterday morning (10), filling the seat left vacant by the disqualification of former State Minister Diana Gamage. Gamage entered Parliament on the SJB ticket, but was declared by the Supreme Court, on Wednesday, ineligible to hold her position due to her British citizenship Following the court’s decision, the SJB nominated Rahuman to fill the National List MP position, and a Gazette notification, confirming it, was issued Thursday evening.

In January 2023, Rahuman resigned from Parliament to contest for the post of Mayor of Colombo in the 2023 local government election, which, however, was postponed indefinitely, with the government claiming it lacks financial means to conduct the poll.
