MTV Media Network secures Sri Lanka broadcast rights to ICC men’s Cricket World Cup 2023

MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd, has secured the Sri Lanka Broadcast and Digital rights for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 from Disney Star, the global rights holder. The pinnacle event in the one-day game will be played in India between 5 October and 19 November.

The MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd Media Network continues a long tradition with Sri Lanka’s favourite sport to bring the action right into the living rooms of the nation’s cricket-hungry fans, completely free. The 48 matches will be broadcast on the network and streamed live on www.sirasatv.lk.

The 13th edition of the World Cup features ten teams – Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Matches will be played in ten world class host cities across India in what is set to be the biggest Cricket World Cup ever.

After not securing a direct qualification, the Sri Lankan team displayed an impressive performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, remaining undefeated.

The CEO of MTV Channels, Susara Dinal notes that the network is geared with the very latest in technology as well as technical expertise to bring home the best possible broadcast to the Sri Lankan people. “We have invested very heavily in our broadcast and transmission, and especially the digital experience”, noted Dinal.

The World Cup will begin on 5th October at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when the two finalists of the last World Cup meet again – defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand. Sri Lanka opens its campaign on October 7 versus South Africa in Delhi.

The group stage will be a round-robin with each team playing the other nine, with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata with the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Australia has won the tournament five times, with India and the West Indies winning it twice, and Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England winning it once each.
