MS confident of polling highest number of votes in Polonnaruwa

Former President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said he would obtain the highest number of votes in the Polonnaruwa District. He said he would poll more than 150,000 preferential votes at the August 05 general election.

The former President said so, speaking a rally in the Polonnaruwa town. “After August 05, I will take charge of developing Polonnaruwa once again. When I started serving the peolpe of Polonnaruwa, 25 years ago, some of my present critics were children.

“When I first went to Parliament, Polonnaruwa was like a cemetery. It was plagued by terrorism unleashed by the LTTE and teh JVP. From 1977 to 1994, ministers who represented Polonnaruwa only developed Kaduruwela area. I combined Polonnaruwa and Kaduruwela into one urban council. I made this a proper city.”
