SJB Colombo District Parliamentarian S. M. Marikkar yesterday demanded to know on what grounds the government would justify selling a 25-acre land in the Hanthana mountain range in Kandy at the rate of Rs 33 a perch.

Addressing the House, the MP said that he had information about an attempt to sell 25 acres of land in Hanthana Mountain to a private company.

The commercial value of the land was Rs 1,760 million, the MP said, adding that agreements to sell this land had been signed in July 2020 and he had in his possession all the documents pertaining to the deal.

Asking the government to inform Parliament who the persons behind this deal, the MP said another plot of 10 acres of land had been earmarked for sale.

Marikkar said that a 25-acre plot of land belonging to the Land Reform Commission at Imbulwadiya in Katana was now being alienated and among the beneficiaries were some ministers.
