MP arrested with 3.5 kilos of undeclared gold at BIA

Puttalam District SLMC MP Ali Sabri Raheem, who has joined the government, was arrested by the Customs with a stock of undeclared gold.
Customs sources said that the MP had been carrying 3.5 kilos of undeclared gold concealed in his hand luggage.
He was taken into custody on arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
MP Harshana Rajakaruna in Parliament said that there were reports that Puttalam District MP Ali Sabri Raheem had been arrested at the BIA with a stock of gold and asked for an impartial investigation into the incident.
The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the Revenue Task Force (RTF) Directorate which operates under the direct supervision of the Director General of Customs.
