Most people desire new political culture: Herath
Addressing a meeting held on Monday at Polgahawela Town Hall auditorium for the local government candidates contesting under Nidahas Janatha Sandhanaya (People’s Freedom Alliance) in the Kurunegala District, Prof Herath said that the new culture sought by people was neither ultra rightist or ultra leftist.
“Ours is a political culture that changed fast since 2015. This polity comprises the middle class that had voted for Maithripala Sirisena in 2015, the professionals who voted to elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and the youth that took to the roads to chase Rajapaksa away. They are demanding a new political culture,” Prof Herath said.
He said that time was over for the political culture where the members of the underworld, political hooligans and thieves were calling shots. If you take a look at the leading political figures from this district they are nothing but political hooligans. Kurunegala politics descended to such low levels when the leaders from Hambantota came to do politics here. It is because of their conduct now people in this district as well as the entire country abhor politics,” Prof Herath said.
