More SBS combatants complete training

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne was the chief guest at a ceremony held recently to award insignia to three officers and 29 sailors of the 27th intake of the Navy’s Special Boats Squadron (SBS), on the successful completion of their training, at the SBS Headquarters, Naval Dockyard in Trincomalee

Those who had excelled during this training were presented with special awards by Commander of the Navy. Accordingly, Sub Lieutenant JADC Jayanayaka, who gained the highest aggregate in overall subjects, was adjudged the Most Excellent SBS Member and Sub Lieutenant MRH Perera received the awards for both Best Marksman and the Best Sportsman. Meanwhile, Ordinary Seaman WMDD Dissanayaka won the award for the SBS Member with Highest Physical Endurance.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander said that the motto of the Special Boat Squadron was ‘Fortune Favours the Brave.’ “Following this, the SBS always stands ready to protect the independence and territorial integrity of the country. The SBS contributed tremendously for the elimination of LTTE terrorism.

President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Chandima Ulugetenne, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commanding Officer of SBS, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command and family members of SBS personnel who completed training also took part in the ceremony.
