More assistance from ADB to overcome crisis
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted 21.62 million U.S. dollars to support 1.2 million farming families in Sri Lanka, the President’s Media Unit (PMD) said on Wednesday.
The PMD said that ADB provided the grant, following a request made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The PMD added that the money will be deposited into the farmers’ accounts, commencing next week.
It said that ADB has also approved an emergency assistance loan of 200 million U.S. dollars.
Earlier this month, Sri Lanka also received a 42,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertiliser shipment as a part of ADB’s emergency assistance to Sri Lanka.
