Kalawana police dug up four kilos of gold jewellery worth Rs 70 million from the homestead of a marketing manager of a leasing company on Monday (22).

The recovery was made as a part of an investigation by the police into a complaint that gold jewellery had gone missing from the safe of the leasing company, since 19 April.

During the probe, police suspected the head of the department and under interrogation, he admitted that he had removed the gold from the company safe with the help of the marketing manager, who was also taken into custody. It was found out that they had made duplicate keys to the safe. They took away the gold on Friday (19) and when the leasing company opened on Monday (22), it was found that the valuables were missing from the safe.

After their disclosure of the theft and the place where the valuables were hidden, the police sent a team to the house of the marketing manager and recovered the gold in plastic containers buried in his garden.

Kalawana police are conducting further investigations.
