Minister Weerasekera assures expeditious completion of required infrastructure for developing connecting cities
Sarath Weerasekara, State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, says most of the infrastructure facilities required for developing connecting cities under the new approach in the National Spatial System of the government policy framework, Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour, would be completed next year. The Minister said so Meeting of the Social Infrastructure Facility Development Committee of Rural Economy Enhancement National Programme, in Puttalam, recently.
Weerasekera said that the officers of his ministry and political leaders at divisional level had identified necessary facilities and they would be completed expeditiously.
The Minister revealed that 03 rural bridges, 15.3 km of provincial roads at a cost of Rs. 568 million, 1,200 water supply projects, 07 divisional hospitals, a fire fighting centre, 04 information technology centres and office buildings, including three libraries would be provided under the programme.
He also asked stakeholders to mention the projects which, they thought, were necessary for the development of Puttalm District.
The minister said that he expected to look into various issues of local authorities personally and expeditious measures would be taken in that regard.
Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Cabinet Representative of Social Infrastructure Development Committee Namal Rajapaksa, chaired the meeting.
