Minister Kanaka Herath presses on with smart classrooms

The incorporation of modern technology into the learning and teaching process is an essential factor for the quality development of education, Company Estate Reforms, Tea and Rubber Estates Related Crops Cultivation and Factories Modernization and Tea and Rubber Export Promotion State Minister Kanaka Herath has said recently.

 The State Minister said that the present Government was constantly advocating for the quality development of education and under that the introduction of modern technology in the teaching and learning processes was considered as the main objective of the present Government.

He was addressing a training workshop organized for teachers engaged in teaching activities in Smart Classrooms using Smart Interactive Boards (SIB).

Representing all the Divisional Secretariats in the Kegalle District, Smart Classrooms with Smart SIB have been established in 20 schools in the district utilising the decentralized budgetary funds for two years of the State Minister.

Addressing the trainees, the State Minister said that the teaching and learning process could be conducted more effectively by providing teachers as well as schoolchildren with the space to use the tools available in the smart classroom.

The Minister said that the smart classroom made a significant contribution to the learning of essential subjects in the modern world such as information technology, English language, robotic and so on

The Ministry of Education and the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Ministry of Education were looking into the possibility of providing smart classrooms with SIBs for all schools in the district, he said.

“Through this we aim to provide a quality learning and teaching environment for all schools from next year with the aim of improving the quality of education. The necessary basic steps have been taken to this end.” State Minister Herath said.
