Mineth shines for Ananda, Nalanda rout DSS

Mineth Premaratne scored a valuable century for Ananda to post a commanding total before a collective bowling effort powered them to their third consecutive victory in the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘B’ tournament on Wednesday.

Ananda had a disastrous start loosing their first three wickets for no runs before Premaratne dropped anchor with an unbeaten century for them to post 230 runs against St. Aloysius’ at the match played at Galle. Premaratne put on a fourth wicket stand of 120 runs with Iruth Gimshan before joining Hansaja Jayasinghe to post an unbroken 110 runs stand for the fifth wicket. He faced 146 balls and scored eight fours and a six. With their third consecutive win they have further cemented their position as the leaders in Group ‘Z’ of Tier ‘B’ tournament.

Like Ananda. St. Peter’s too strengthened their position as the leaders in Group ‘X’ of Tier ‘B’ when a strong batting display from Lahiru Dawatage (83) and Wanuja Kumara (86n.o.) helped them record a six wicket victory over Maris Stella.

Lowest total of the tournament

D.S. Senanayaka College were bowled out for the lowest total of the ongoing tournament yesterday when Nalanda rattled them for 45 runs. Dineth Samaraweera with six wickets was the pick of the bowlers. That was also the best bowling performance of the day’s matches.

Mahanama too continued their unbeaten run to maintain the top position in their group as Sachira Weliwatta scored an unbeaten half century for them to beat De Mazenod at Kandana.

Meanwhile Royal commenced their tournament with a win over St. Anne’s.

St. Benedict’s and Dharmaraja were the other teams to register victories.
