Micro Electric International wins Supply Chain Excellence award
Micro Electric International (Pvt) Ltd bagged yet another accolade to their expanding awards portfolio when they won the ‘Special Commendation Award’ of the Medium Scale Enterprise Category at the National Award of Excellence for the Best Supply Chain Practicing Organization 2023 on Tuesday at Shangri-La Hotel Colombo.
The event was organized by the Institute of Supply and Materials Management in Collaboration with the Ministry of Industries and Industrial Development Board.
Founded by Dhammika Samarawickrama and Kumari Samarawickrama in 1995, Micro Electric International (Pvt) Ltd is a family-owned enterprise in Sri Lanka. Over the past 28 years, the company has steadily grown into an international supplier of electrical products and accessories under the brand name “Divolca”.
The company are also in to exports to the region and to Europe. Expanding their footprint overseas, last year the company opened their first overseas factory in Mumbai industrial park with 150 employees to serve the Indian as well as the export market. “the revenue we earn from this operation is brought to Sri Lanka in US dollars,” they said.
Commenting on their local operations, Dhammika said that they manufacture around 60 products locally with a value addition of nearly 40% in their factory in Colombo which continuously gains market share over its main competitors. These products have also gained SLS and ISO standards. We provide direct and indirect employment for nearly 700 staff.”
He said they would soon sign up with an American partner for manufacturing solar based products in Sri Lanka and would also renew their contract with a Korean company to manufacture smart phones in Sri Lanka, a project which was pushed back due to the pandemic and the economic crisis.
“Our R&D team is also looking at producing less energy consuming products to help people to reduce their electricity bill,” he said.
