Met Dept. issues amber warning
The Meteorology Department yesterday issued an amber advisory for severe lightning accompanied by thunderstorms about 100 mm likely to occur in some parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Central, Eastern and Southern Provinces, today.
It said that there could be temporary localised strong winds during thunderstorms. The public has been asked to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.
The Meteorology Department said the low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression during next 24 hours, and likely to move North Eastwards towards Bangladesh coast away from Sri Lanka and advised the naval and fishing communities to be vigilant over the sea areas bounded by (10N – 20 N) and between (84E – 90E) during the next 24 hour.
