Mega recognition for superstar Yohani

In the last couple of years, Sri Lanka’s singing sensation, Yohani de Silva, has been very much in the news…and in an awesome way; and it all began with her remake of the song ‘Manike Mage Hithe’.

What makes her stand out is her unique voice, in addition to her personality, and her ability to do it differently.

She is a mega hit, and a celebrity, in India, where she now resides.

Wherever she travels in India, she is mobbed by Indian music lovers…with everyone keen to take a selfie with her; and on several occasions, her security had to intervene to clear the path for her vehicle to move on.

Having achieved stupendous success, almost overnight, Yohani is now being recognized outside India, as well.

Dubai honoured her with the Golden Visa, and Yohani had this to say:

Yohani also performed in the Maldives, for the first time, at the ChanaaChaa 2022 concert, where she delivered a spectacular performance, I’m told, singing her hit songs ‘Manike Mage Hithe’, ‘Chammak Challlo’, ‘Kabira’, ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha’, and others.

Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also attended the concert and is said to have expressed his gratitude towards Yohani.

Yohani is quoted as having said: “This is the first time I have ever visited the Maldives. Not in my wildest dream would I have ever imagined this performance to be such a hit. To have received so much love, support and energy from the people of the Maldives is unparalleled”.

The singing sensation admitted being nervous, before her performance, but the support from the live audience set the course for a flawless performance from her.

“When I was backstage, getting ready for my performance, I won’t lie I was a bit nervous, but hearing the chants and cheers from the crowd, as soon as I walked on the stage, made me feel loved and comfortable.

“Getting love from fans is always an enormous feeling but to get it from a new place, which you have never visited, is a surreal experience.

“I was welcomed with immense love and support. I am so thankful to the beautiful people of the Maldives who treated me so well”.

And, guess what! Yohani was in town, too – last month – for a very special performance…at an IPL Bash Celebrations, held on 26th May, 2023, right here in Colombo.
