Maristonians Celebrate the Centennial

As part of the Grand Centennial Celebration of the founding of Maris Stella College in 1922, the OBA arranged a unique Back to School Event on 28th August 2022. Old Maristonians of various generations clad in school uniforms had nostalgic recollections of their youth as students in Negombo’s leading Academic Institution, mixing easily with their Teachers and the Marist Brothers.

The highlight of the morning celebration was a unique ceremony where eight Moristonians of Distinction were recognised and honoured with Lifetime Achievements. Mr. George Fernando, Deshamanya Merril J Fernando, Mr. Merrick Gooneratne, Mr. Graeme Labrooy, Rev. Bro. Shanthi Liyanage, Prof. Leslie Panditharatne, Dr. Lakshman Senanayake and Mr. Earle Suraweera received the accolades of the nostalgically recreated morning quadrangle assembly to Dr. Thilak Siyambalapitiya’s eloquent citations, watched by a very pleased VP Pradeep Peiris who chaired the Awards Ceremony,followed by Holy Mass celebrated by old Maristonian clergy

Thousands of Maristonians in white shirts and blue shorts wound up the evening at Kadolkelle grounds in fun and laughter in an evening meticulously organised by VP Dhammika Fernando The President of the OBA, Ajith Weerasinghe coordinated this once in a life time centennial celebration.
