Man arrested in India with 4.3 kilos of gold biscuits smuggled from Lanka
India’s Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) together with the Customs Preventive Commissionerate, Trichy, on Saturday (03 Feb.) arrested a man from Ramanathapuram in possession of seized 4.3kg of gold biscuits reportedly smuggled from Sri Lanka, said a report published by Times of India.
The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the CIU about an alleged gold-smuggling attempt, via sea, to Kunthukal near Rameswaram in the Ramanathapuram district.
On enquiry, it was found that the man, identified as C Namburajan of Rameswaram, was in possession of 4.3kg of gold biscuits worth around INR 22 million (approximately over LKR 82 million).
Accordingly, the suspect was arrested, while the consignment of gold and his motorcycle were seized. Further investigations into the incident are underway, ToI said.
